Former Petroleum Minister and former Bayelsa Governor Chief Timipre Sylva has quit the All Progressives Congress.
In his resignation letter dated August 31 2026 to his Ward 4 Chairman in Brass, Bayelsa, Sylva said he can no longer stay in a party that believes all is fair in politics. Copies went to the APC National Chairman, Bayelsa APC Chairman and the EFCC.
He called APC a floundering ship that has disappointed the vast majority of Nigerians and said the ideals they built the party with in 2013 have been thwarted. He said he is ready for any witch hunt that follows.
Sylva governed Bayelsa from 2007 to 2012, was Petroleum Minister from 2019 to 2023 under Buhari and was central to the APC merger that ended PDP rule in 2015. His exit comes while he is linked to an alleged 2025 coup plot which he denies. In 2025 soldiers raided his Abuja home and in April 2026 six suspects were arraigned for treason in Abuja.
With 2027 nearing, this is a big crack in the ruling party.
