Similar demonstrations were scheduled in Paris, Marseille, and later in Toulouse before parliamentary approval of the budget.
Thousands of workers marched in Lyon to protest against France’s 2026 budget and public spending cuts as trade unions called for a day of nationwide strike action on Tuesday, December 2, 2025.
Footage showed demonstrators with loudspeakers who chanted slogans and occupied key streets and bridges along the route.
An estimated 3,500 participants who joined the march, carried CGT flags and banners.
The nationwide mobilisation was part of a series of planned actions by trade unions, like CGT, FO, and FSU, who opposed the government’s budget proposals.
Critics argued that, under the 2026 plan, public sector funds were diverted to increased military expenses to meet NATO and EU defence spending goals.
