Suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists kill four police officers in Borno.
At least four police officers and a local hunter have been killed in separate attacks by suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists in Nganzai and Mobbar Local Government Areas of Borno State.
CBI News reports that the Borno State Police Command confirmed the incidents, stating that the personnel died while repelling coordinated assaults on security formations and communities.
Police spokesperson Nahum Kenneth Daso said the first attack occurred around 1:00 a.m. on April 4, when armed terrorists attempted to overrun the Nganzai Divisional Police Headquarters.
According to him, officers, supported by Police Mobile Force operatives and Crack Squad personnel, engaged the attackers in a fierce gun battle and successfully repelled the assault on both Nganzai and nearby Damasak communities.
“They deployed Rocket-Propelled Grenades (RPGs) and other sophisticated weapons, causing damage to a section of the station and partially burnt an unserviceable Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC).
“But regrettably, four police personnel paid the supreme price in the line of duty,” Daso said.
In a separate attack around 2:40 a.m. the same day, terrorists targeted a Civilian Joint Task Force and hunters’ duty post at the Malam Fatori Internally Displaced Persons camp in Damasak, Mobbar LGA.
During the assault, a hunter identified as Atom Abua, 40, was killed, while about 20 thatched houses were destroyed.
Daso said a joint response by the Police, Military, Civilian Joint Task Force, and local hunters helped repel the attackers and limit further damage.
Following the incidents, the Commissioner of Police, Naziru Abdulmajid, deployed additional personnel and operational assets to the affected areas to strengthen security and prevent further attacks.
“He also extends his condolences to the families of the deceased personnel and assures that the Command is committed to tracking down the perpetrators and bringing them to justice,” Daso said.
The police urged residents to remain calm and vigilant, while continuing to support security agencies with credible information, reaffirming their commitment to protecting lives and property despite ongoing challenges in the state.
