Tensions in the Middle East are escalating again as a tanker comes under attack in the strategic Strait of Hormuz — just hours after Donald Trump announced a U.S. plan to rescue stranded vessels.

CBI News reports that a tanker has reportedly been struck by unknown projectiles in the Strait of Hormuz, according to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations, in a fresh sign of rising tensions in one of the world’s most critical oil corridors.

The incident occurred approximately 78 nautical miles north of Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates, with all crew members confirmed safe despite the attack.

The development came shortly after Donald Trump announced that the United States would begin efforts to free ships stranded in the Gulf due to the ongoing crisis involving Iran and Israel.

Trump described the planned operation as a humanitarian move to assist vessels and crews reportedly “locked up” in the vital waterway and facing shortages of food and essential supplies. However, he provided few details about how the operation would be carried out.

The Strait of Hormuz, a key global energy route, has been severely disrupted in recent months, with Iran accused of restricting shipping and targeting vessels attempting to transit the passage. The situation has driven up global energy prices and heightened fears of a wider economic impact.
