In a major political twist in Sokoto State, former Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has stepped back from the 2027 Senate race, choosing party unity over personal ambition.
According to a report by cbinews.tv, former Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has officially withdrawn from the race for the 2027 Sokoto South Senatorial seat under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Instead of continuing his bid, Tambuwal reportedly handed the party’s ticket to former Commissioner for Finance, Faruk Malami-Yabo. The move is said to be part of efforts to maintain unity within the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Party insiders describe Tambuwal, who is widely seen as a key leader of the ADC in Sokoto State, as having stepped down after consultations and internal disagreements over candidate selection.
Speaking on the development, the Sokoto State ADC Publicity Secretary, Lamir Aminu, confirmed in a phone interview that Tambuwal made a selfless decision in the interest of peace and stability within the party.
He explained that the party is also prioritizing youth inclusion and internal democracy, noting that several House of Representatives tickets have already been given to younger aspirants.
Meanwhile, political activities continue to heat up in the state as ADC chieftain, Faruku Umar Fada, emerged as the party’s candidate for the Sokoto North/Sokoto South Federal Constituency.
Fada, after receiving the ticket, expressed gratitude to party leaders and supporters, promising an inclusive campaign cantered on youth empowerment, education, and better representation for constituents.
He assured that with strong stakeholder support, the party is confident of making a strong showing in the upcoming elections scheduled for February 20, 2027.
