Talent will get you through the door, but only discipline will keep you in the room. That's the blunt truth from Nollywood's original Lover Boy.
Look, if anyone has earned the right to talk about longevity, it's Ramsey Nouah.
In a chatty interview shared on Instagram on Tuesday, the 55-year-old veteran told cbinews.tv that becoming famous is actually the easy part. Staying there? That's the real work.
"Well, I've come to know that talent is not enough. Discipline is what keeps you consistent when inspiration fails you," he said.
And he gets why people get it twisted. Most of us only see the red-carpet moment, not the 3am doubts and the endless takes.
"A lot of people see success like it's given, but it's not. They never see the work, the efforts, the doubts, and everything behind the scenes. And they always think that when you're famous, you're successful already," he told cbinews.tv.
So, which is harder — making it or staying relevant? He didn't even blink.
"Being relevant, yeah. Success is a given, but it happens just once. Consistency is what really matters. And for you to be consistent, you need discipline," he said.
It's hard to argue with him, really. This is a man who has done it all. Born in Lagos to an Israeli father and a Yoruba mother, he first stole our hearts as Jeff in the 90s soap Fortunes, then became the ultimate romantic lead — hence the nickname "Lover Boy" that followed him across the continent.
But that was then. The Ramsey we know now is completely different. Think the cold, enigmatic Uncle B in Netflix's Blood Sisters, a man who says almost nothing yet owns every scene. Think director — his debut, Living in Bondage: Breaking Free, swept the Africa Magic Viewers' Choice Awards in 2020.
And he's not slowing down. According to cbinews.tv, he's back as Captain Dewa in 77: The Festac Conspiracy, Izu Ojukwu's hugely anticipated period thriller set during the iconic 1977 FESTAC festival, alongside Rita Dominic.
Plus, he's developing that powerful historical drama on the 1803 Igbo Landing — the story of enslaved Igbo people who chose collective resistance over submission.
