Super Eagles says AFCON bronze-winning coach Chelle not leaving Nigeria...
The camp of the Nigeria national football team has dismissed speculation surrounding the future of head coach Eric Chelle, insisting the tactician remains committed to his role with the national team.
The clarification followed reports linking the Malian coach to Moroccan football powerhouse Wydad Casablanca.
The Super Eagles’ media officer, Promise Efoghe, dismissed the claim, describing it as false.
According to him, the report suggesting Chelle was close to joining the Moroccan side is unfounded.
“Good day friends and colleagues. Kindly ignore this story. It is fake news,” Efoghe wrote on the Super Eagles’ official media WhatsApp group on Monday.
The rumour originated from a report by Moroccan television outlet Le7TV, which claimed Chelle was on the verge of taking over from current Wydad manager Amine Benhachem.
Despite growing speculation about his future, Chelle remains under contract with the Nigeria Football Federation until January 2027.
The 48-year-old coach has attracted interest from several clubs and national teams across Africa and Europe following his impressive performance with Nigeria.
He guided the Super Eagles to a third-place finish at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, a result that boosted his reputation within international football circles.
Chelle himself recently addressed the speculation, including reports linking him with French club Olympique de Marseille.
Speaking during an interview with histoiresdefootpodcast, the coach insisted he remains fully committed to Nigeria.
“At the moment we’re speaking, of course I am still the coach of Nigeria,” Chelle said.
“I still have one year left on my contract. In fact, just yesterday I was in a meeting by video with my technical staff to work on the squad list for the March matches. So yes, I am still the coach of Nigeria.”
