Ever thought you'd discovered a brilliant new artist on Spotify, only to find out they aren't even real?

Spotify is finally clearing things up. The streaming giant has announced it will roll out a new “AI Persona” badge from mid-September that will clearly label music made by AI-generated producers, not real people.

And honestly, it's about time.

According to a statement shared via cbinews.tv, Spotify said listeners have been quite clear: they don’t like stumbling on an artist profile that looks human, only to later realise the persona is entirely AI-generated.

This latest move is part of Spotify’s ongoing push to be more transparent about what’s actually in your playlists. With AI-generated tracks flooding streaming platforms, there has been growing concern across the music industry about authenticity and how catalogues are being overwhelmed.

Back in April, the Swedish company introduced its “Verified by Spotify” badge, which shows a profile has been reviewed and meets its authenticity standards. Now, it’s taking it a step further.

Spotify confirmed that alongside profiles which self-identify as AI Personas, it will also start applying the badges itself where relevant.

And there’s more: the platform says it won’t include AI Personas in its editorial or personalised recommendations unless you actually choose to follow one.

So your Discover Weekly should remain wonderfully human, unless you want it otherwise.
