Forget Abuja generals fighting over land. Omoyele Sowore says his defence chief will fly, scan, and strike from the sky.
Omoyele Sowore, activist and African Action Congress presidential hopeful, went on TV on Thursday and dropped a proper bombshell. If he gets into Aso Rock, he won't pick a retired general for defence. He'll pick a drone.
"If I become Nigeria's president tomorrow, my minister of defence will be a drone. That's how much I believe in technology," he said.
It's not just cruise talk. Sowore argued Nigeria's security mess needs a full technological overhaul, plus what he called "honest leaders and supervisors and officers" who actually do the job.
His gripe with the current set-up? Too many commanders are comfy in Abuja.
"We have to have honest leaders and supervisors and officers who are not staying in Abuja fighting over land but actually fighting wars, generals who can actually strategise and do what is right," he told the host.
He had the same energy for the police. He wants them back on core internal security, "not escorting people or arresting people for insulting others on Facebook."
So what does Drone HQ look like? Sowore pictured a central command-and-control room powered by drones and artificial intelligence.
"I'm just going to have a control centre where people sit down and track terrorists and liquidate them," he said.
The interviewer pushed him further, joking that he should just make AI the minister. Sowore didn't blink.
"That's part of it. And that drone will fly everywhere," he replied.
To be fair, he didn't say tech alone will fix everything. He stressed that you still have to tackle the root causes pushing young people into militancy.
"Ultimately, you must create a society where people can find jobs and go to school, and not be willing to take up arms," he added.
This isn't the first time he's floated it either. He said something similar back in January 2026 on Channels TV.
