Catholic Diocese denies attack on Bishop Kukah's residence...
The Catholic Diocese of Sokoto has dismissed viral claims that the residence of Bishop Matthew Kukah, along with the Sokoto Cathedral and a ₦1 billion Catholic Pastoral Centre, was set ablaze by suspected attackers.
CBI News reports that in an official statement issued on Saturday, the Diocese described the report as false, assuring the public that no such incident occurred.
The disclaimer, signed by the Director of Communications, Pascal Salifu, confirmed that all church facilities remain unharmed.
“The Bishop’s residence, the Cathedral, and the Catholic Pastoral Centre in Sokoto remain safe, intact, and fully operational,” the statement said.
The Diocese explained that the viral video circulating online was misleading and had resurfaced amid heightened sensitivities following the killing of Deborah Yakubu in May 2022.
It warned that the spread of such content was the work of individuals seeking to create panic and disrupt public peace.
The Diocese also commended the prompt intervention of security agencies, noting that military and other operatives acted swiftly after the video emerged.
Reassuring residents, the church stated that Sokoto remains calm and peaceful, urging the public to ignore unverified information and rely on credible sources.
The Bishop further extended goodwill messages to Christians and all residents, wishing them a joyful and grace-filled Easter celebration.
