From bulletproof SUVs for the governor’s fleet to road repairs and airport upgrades, Sokoto State has rolled out fresh multi-billion naira approvals aimed at boosting infrastructure and public services.
According to reports by cbinews.tv, the Sokoto State Executive Council has signed off on contracts worth over ₦7.5 billion covering vehicles, road rehabilitation, and several infrastructure projects across the state.
A notable part of the approval is ₦1.46 billion earmarked for vehicles for the governor’s office. This includes three bulletproof Toyota Land Cruiser SUVs, two 2025 Toyota Prado SUVs, and a Coaster bus.
The decisions were announced on Wednesday after the State Executive Council meeting held at the Government House in Sokoto.
The Commissioner for Transport, Bala Kokani, also confirmed that ₦438 million was approved for the direct purchase of six buses for the Sokoto State Transport Authority. He noted that the decision was influenced by the agency’s reported ₦500 million in internally generated revenue.
On infrastructure, Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Nasiru Dantsoho, revealed that ₦2.2 billion was approved for the rehabilitation of 36 roads across the state. He also mentioned an additional ₦894.68 million allocated to ongoing construction at the Sultan Abubakar International Airport Protocol Lodge.
Other approvals include ₦1.08 billion for the renovation of the NYSC Orientation Camp in Wamako, which officials said was originally built during the administration of former Governor Aliyu Magatakarda Wamako.
The council further approved ₦398.63 million for fencing the Livestock Services Centre in Wamako, and ₦733.27 million for upgrading the International Conference Centre in Kasarawa.
To improve sanitation, ₦340.5 million was approved for two pay loaders to support waste evacuation efforts.
Additional allocations include ₦67.99 million for the 2026 government calendar and diaries, as well as ₦71.22 million for official diaries for the governor’s office.
Officials also noted that a separate memo tied to funding from the Federation Account Allocation Committee and the Federal Ministry of Finance will be sent to the State House of Assembly to unlock more infrastructure financing.
Overall, the council said these approvals reflect its continued push to strengthen infrastructure, transportation systems, security, and public service delivery across Sokoto State.
