Sokoto Announces September 14 Resumption Date for Schools Amid Insecurity

Schools in Sokoto are set to reopen in the new week, but some will stay shut.
The Sokoto State Government has fixed September 14, 2026 as resumption date for the 2026/2027 session, cbinews.tv reports.
In a statement on Friday by Ministry spokesperson Ibrahim Muhammad Iya, boarding schools will reopen on Sunday September 13 while academic activities in public and private day schools begin on Monday September 14.
The ministry however said schools closed due to insecurity will remain shut until it is safe to reopen them.
Commissioner Prof Ahmad Ladan Ala has directed all agencies under the ministry to monitor the exercise, with inspectors deployed across the state to ensure compliance. Parents, guardians and teachers have been urged to ensure prompt return.
The announcement is key for families in Sokoto metropolis who have been on long holiday, while parents in affected rural communities will wait for a separate directive.
