Southern and Middle Belt Leadership Forum insist on electronic transmission of election results...
The Southern and Middle Belt Leadership Forum, has called for the retention of Clause 60 of the 2026 Electoral Amendment Bill, which provides for real-time electronic transmission of election results. The group says transparent elections are vital to democracy and that the IReV portal should be supported by law to reduce disputes and improve public confidence.
The forum also noted concerns surrounding the final version of the bill and referred to comments by Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, who said the Senate had approved mandatory electronic transmission. The forum stressed that the law should be clear and unambiguous to avoid a repeat of the optional provision used in the 2023 elections.
The group said mandatory transmission would help prevent result tampering, strengthen trust in the electoral process, and reduce election-related violence.
It also called for justice for victims of the recent Woro massacre in Kwara State, renewed its advocacy for state police and restructuring, and urged lawmakers to uphold the will of Nigerians.
