FRSC confirms deaths, injuries in trailer crash along Lagos–Ibadan Expressway...
Six passengers have been confirmed dead, while 23 others sustained injuries in a road accident that occurred around the Foursquare Camp along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Monday in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
According to the Public Relations Officer of the FRSC in the state, Odunsin Afolabi, the crash was caused by fatigue and speeding, which resulted in loss of control by the driver.
“The incident occurred at about 11:27 hours. The response time was two minutes before the rescue team from the Federal Road Safety Corps, Ogunmakin Unit Command, got to the scene,” Afolabi said.
He explained that the accident involved a lone trailer, a DAF CF 380 with registration number SNA 287 XA.
“A total of 29 persons were involved: 23 were injured while six were killed,” he added.
CBI News reports that Afolabi also cautioned against the practice of mixed loading of cattle and passengers, noting that it complicates rescue operations and increases the risk of fatalities during crashes.
He said the injured victims and the bodies of the deceased were taken to Oreoluwa Hospital, GOFAMINT Camp, Ogunmakin, and Victory Hospital, Ogere.
The FRSC further advised motorists, particularly commercial drivers, to ensure regular servicing and inspection of vehicles, especially heavy-duty trailers.
Drivers were urged to avoid speeding, maintain full control of their vehicles on expressways, and strictly adhere to road safety regulations.
