What a season for Nigeria’s rising star! From Lagos to Rome, Shukurat Oladipo has gone from promising talent to Italy’s best defender in women’s football, and she’s only just getting started.

According to CBI News tv, the Super Falcons defender has officially been named Best Defender of the Season in Italy’s Serie A Femminile after a standout campaign with AS Roma Women.

The 21-year-old picked up the prestigious honour at a glittering gala ceremony on Monday night, capping off what has been a breakout season in Europe. She also earned a place in the league’s Team of the Season, no surprise, really, given how solid she’s been at the back.

Since joining Roma in February 2025 from Robo Queens, Oladipo has slotted in seamlessly and quickly become one of the club’s most dependable defenders. She featured in 18 league matches and played a key role as Roma boasted one of the tightest defences in the division, losing just once all season while securing their third league title in four years.

Now, attention turns to one final big test, as Roma prepare to face Juventus Women on 24 May, and they’ll be counting on Oladipo’s defensive calm and strength once again.

It’s been a dream year for the Nigerian international, who was also part of the Super Falcons squad that lifted the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title.

From domestic success in Nigeria to European recognition in Italy, Oladipo’s rise is firmly one to watch.
