President Bola Tinubu Commiserates with Kwara over Woro killings.....
Nigeria’s Vice-President Kashim Shettima on Saturday conveyed the condolences of President Bola Tinubu to the government and people of Kwara state following deadly attacks on Woro and Nuku communities in Kaima Local Government Area.
Residents said members of an Islamist sect known as Lakurawa attacked the communities on Feb. 3, killing several people and destroying property.
Speaking on behalf of Tinubu during a condolence visit, Shettima described the incident as tragic and shocking, saying the victims were peaceful residents engaged in legitimate livelihoods.
He said the affected communities had for centuries practised peaceful and tolerant forms of Islam, adding that the violence was alien to their history, culture and religious traditions.
“Please accept our heartfelt condolences on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Shettima said. “Our prayers are with you, and our empathy is with the affected families and communities.”
Shettima said the federal government had deployed a battalion of the Nigerian Army to the area and was taking all necessary measures to restore peace and security.
He added that the president had directed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), working with the Kwara State Emergency Management Agency, to mobilise relief materials to support the victims.
Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq thanked the president and vice-president, describing the federal government’s response as swift and reassuring.
He said security agencies, including troops from the Nigerian Army’s 2 Division, had been deployed, while NEMA officials were on the ground to assess humanitarian needs.
Abdulrazaq urged Nigerians to continue supporting the country’s leadership, expressing optimism that sustained prayers and collective efforts would improve security nationwide.
