Oklahoma City Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is officially running the NBA right now — and he’s just backed it up with another MVP trophy.
According to reporting from cbinews.tv, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has been named the NBA Most Valuable Player for the second year in a row, becoming only the 14th player in league history to win back-to-back MVP awards.
The Oklahoma City Thunder guard didn’t just win — he dominated the voting. He pulled in 83 of 100 first-place votes, finishing well ahead of the rest of the field in a clear statement of his impact this season.
Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokić finished third in the MVP race, while San Antonio Spurs rookie sensation Victor Wembanyama also placed among the top vote-getters, highlighting a competitive year at the top of the league.
This latest win also extends a remarkable global trend: for the eighth straight year, the NBA MVP award has gone to a non-American player, underscoring the league’s continued international dominance.
At a celebration held at the Thunder practice facility, Shai showed love to his teammates, who showed up in matching Burberry trench coats gifted to him. He kept his speech grounded, emphasizing that individual awards don’t happen without team success.
“Basketball’s obviously a team sport,” he said.
“All the numbers, all the accolades, everything that I do on the court, if we won 10 games, I wouldn’t be in this conversation. So, thank you guys so much. I love you guys,” he added.
Behind him in the voting were some familiar names. Luka Dončić of the Los Angeles Lakers finished fourth, while Cade Cunningham of the Detroit Pistons came in fifth. Cunningham’s two first-place votes were also notable, marking the first time since 2021 that a U.S.-born player received first-place MVP recognition.
Further down the list, Jaylen Brown of the Boston Celtics finished sixth, while Kawhi Leonard of the Los Angeles Clippers and Donovan Mitchell of the Cleveland Cavaliers tied for seventh.
Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault also praised Shai’s consistency and continued growth, crediting his leadership as a key part of Oklahoma City’s success.
