CAF awards Morocco 2025 AFCON title after Senegal forfeiture...
The Confederation of African Football has officially declared Morocco national football team winners of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after overturning the result of the final against Senegal national football team.
CAF’s Appeal Board ruled that Senegal forfeited the match, awarding Morocco a 3–0 victory and confirming the host nation as champions of the tournament.
In a statement released by CAF, the Appeal Board said it upheld an appeal filed by the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football.
The board consequently set aside the earlier ruling of the CAF Disciplinary Board.
According to the statement, the conduct of the Senegalese team during the final fell within the scope of Articles 82 and 84 of the AFCON regulations.
“The CAF Appeal Board further finds that the conduct of the Senegal team falls within the scope of Articles 82 and 84 of the Regulations of the Africa Cup of Nations,” the statement read.
CAF ruled that the actions of the Fédération Sénégalaise de Football constituted a breach of the tournament’s regulations.
As a result, the Senegalese national team was deemed to have forfeited the match.
“In application of Article 84 of the Regulations of the Africa Cup of Nations, the Senegal team is declared to have forfeited the match, with the result recorded as 3–0 in favour of the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football,” CAF stated.
The ruling followed dramatic scenes during the final in Rabat, where the Senegal team reportedly walked off the pitch in protest.
The incident forced tournament officials to review the circumstances surrounding the match.
Following deliberations and an appeal process, CAF determined that the protest lodged by Morocco was valid and that Senegal’s conduct warranted a forfeit.
Morocco Officially Crowned Champions
With the decision, Morocco were officially crowned champions of the 2025 AFCON tournament.
CAF also confirmed that all other motions or prayers for relief in the appeal were dismissed, bringing the case to a close.
The decision means Morocco secure the continental title after the match result was retroactively recorded as a 3–0 victory in their favour.
