Senegal reports its first mpox case of 2025 in a foreign man who arrived last week. Authorities say the patient is stable, under isolation, and 25 contacts are being monitored.
Senegalese health authorities have confirmed the country’s first case of mpox this year in a foreign national who arrived last week.
The Health Ministry said the man is in stable condition, receiving care while in isolation. It did not specify which variant of the virus was detected.
CBI News reports that officials noted that no additional cases have been recorded since the detection, but 25 individuals who had close contact with the patient are under medical monitoring.
Mpox, which spreads mainly through close contact, usually causes mild illness but can be fatal in rare cases. Symptoms include flu-like signs and pus-filled skin lesions.
The World Health Organization last year declared mpox a global health emergency for the second time in two years after a major outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo spread to neighbouring countries.
