Oyelola Ashiru declares intention to contest 2027 Kwara governorship election...
The Senate Deputy Majority Leader, Oyelola Ashiru, has formally announced his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Kwara State under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
CBI News reports that Ashiru made the declaration in Ilorin on Thursday, joining a growing list of aspirants within the ruling party as political activities begin to gather momentum ahead of the next general elections.
His entry into the race comes after another senator from Kwara North, Sadiq Suleiman Umar, earlier signalled interest in contesting the same position on the APC platform, highlighting increasing competition within the party.
During his declaration, Ashiru unveiled a policy document titled “Covenant with Kwara,” which he described as a comprehensive roadmap for governance if elected.
According to him, the document outlines a vision anchored on seven key pillars aimed at driving development across critical sectors of the state.
He said the initiative represents “a blueprint for inclusive governance, shared prosperity and generational renewal,” stressing that his ambition is focused on delivering measurable progress rather than routine administration.
“I am asking for the mandate to govern Kwara State from 2027 to 2031. Not to manage it. Not to preside over it. To transform it, deliberately, systematically and with every Kwaran able to see, in real time, whether I am keeping my word,” Ashiru stated.
The lawmaker also emphasised that his proposed administration would prioritise the welfare of citizens, noting that governance decisions under his leadership would be closely tied to improving the everyday lives of the people.
