CBI News observed a large deployment of Nigerian Army personnel stationed around INEC’s premises, alongside armoured tanks and officers of the Nigeria Police Force bearing assault rifles and other weapons.
Armed soldiers and police have taken over INEC headquarters in Abuja following threats of protest by African Democratic Congress members over leadership disputes.
Armoured tanks and officers with assault rifles are on the ground, with restricted movement in and out of the facility. This follows INEC's removal of David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola's names from its portal due to a court order amidst a leadership crisis. The commission has suspended recognition of any ADC faction pending court judgment.
