Saudi Arabia has officially declared Tuesday, May 26, 2026, as the Day of Arafat, while Eid-el-Adha celebrations will take place on Wednesday, May 27, according to the Kingdom’s Supreme Court.
CBI News reports that the announcement followed the sighting of the Dhul Hijjah crescent moon, confirming Monday, May 18, as the first day of Dhul Hijjah 1447 AH.
In a statement released by the Saudi Supreme Court, the Crescent Sighting Department said the decision was reached after reviewing testimonies from witnesses who confirmed seeing the moon.
The court also offered prayers for the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, commending their continued service to pilgrims visiting the holy sites.
It further prayed for a peaceful and successful Hajj exercise, asking Allah to grant pilgrims ease and comfort throughout the pilgrimage.
Haramain Info, the official account of the two holy mosques, also confirmed the development in a post on X, stating that the blessed month of Dhul Hijjah had officially begun and Eid-el-Adha would be observed on May 27, In shaa Allah.
Meanwhile, in Nigeria, the Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, also announced Monday, May 18, as the first day of Dhul Hijjah.
Dhul Hijjah, the 12th month of the Islamic calendar, is regarded as one of the holiest periods in Islam. It is during this sacred month that millions of Muslims perform Hajj and observe important spiritual events, including the Day of Arafah and Eid-el-Adha.
