Seven years in, and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu says he’s only just getting started — Lagos, get ready for the next chapter.
According to cbinews.tv, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu isn’t slowing down as he marks seven years in office. If anything, he’s doubling down.
In a statement released on Friday through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, the governor told Lagosians straight: “the best is yet to come.” He promised his administration will be going even harder on infrastructure, housing, healthcare and security.
What he’s promising next
Sanwo-Olu was clear that his team “will not rest on our oars.” Here’s what’s on the to-do list:
- Quality roads that actually last
- Affordable housing for more Lagosians
- Reliable healthcare you can count on
- World-class education for the next generation
- A secure environment where businesses can thrive
Thanking the people who got him here
The governor didn’t hold back on the gratitude. He thanked residents for their “trust, patience, and partnership,” calling the last seven years a story of “shared sacrifice, resilience, and collective progress.”
“Seven years ago, we began this journey with a clear vision to build a Greater Lagos that works for all,” he said. “Your support has been the bedrock of every milestone — from improved infrastructure and healthcare to education reforms, urban mass transport systems, youth empowerment, and urban renewal projects across all five divisions of our state.”
Riding out the tough times
Sanwo-Olu acknowledged it hasn’t been smooth sailing. Between COVID-19 and other global economic shocks, his administration still kept its eyes on the THEMES+ Agenda. He also gave a shout-out to President Bola Tinubu, saying the Renewed Hope Agenda has backed Lagos on infrastructure, health, education and empowerment.
Scorecard season
He noted that over the past month, his team has been laying out “all our modest achievements” through ministerial press briefings. Basically, the receipts are out for Lagosians to see.
The ask
To wrap up, the governor called on residents to keep supporting government policies. He’s also asking private sector players and development partners to partner up on sustainable development. And he thanked civil servants, traditional rulers, religious leaders, community stakeholders, and APC members for their role in Lagos’s growth.
So, seven years down. If Sanwo-Olu’s right, Lagos hasn’t seen anything yet.
