Trouble again for Jub Jub. The South African rapper and TV host has been arrested after allegedly kidnapping a taxi driver and firing a gun at him over a dispute about his girlfriend.

South African TV presenter and rapper Molemo Maarohanye, better known as Jub Jub, is back in police custody, cbinews.tv reports.

Police say Maarohanye was arrested for allegedly kidnapping a taxi driver and shooting in his direction during a confrontation in Edenvale, a town about 25 km from Johannesburg.

He reportedly accused the driver of having a relationship with his girlfriend. According to the police, the incident happened on Sunday at 07:30 local time after the driver had just dropped off a passenger. Maarohanye allegedly forced the unnamed man into his vehicle and fired his gun towards him.

The man managed to escape unharmed and drove straight to a nearby police station to report it. Maarohanye has not commented yet.

Police say the musician, who was once one of South Africa’s most popular artistes, will appear at Germiston Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday for an initial hearing.

This isn’t his first run in with the law. In 2012 he was convicted of murder and attempted murder after killing four schoolchildren and injuring two others while drag racing. The High Court overturned those verdicts two years later and convicted him of manslaughter instead.

In 2023, he was arrested on charges of rape, attempted murder and assault following claims made by an ex girlfriend. The National Prosecuting Authority withdrew the charges in 2024, saying there were “no reasonable prospects of a successful prosecution”.

Maarohanye currently hosts Uyajola 9/9, a reality TV show that exposes cheating partners.
