Fresh violence has erupted between Russia and Ukraine following the expiration of a US-brokered ceasefire, with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy accusing Moscow of launching more than 200 drones overnight across multiple Ukrainian regions.

Russia and Ukraine have resumed intense aerial attacks after a United States-brokered three-day truce expired, according to reports monitored by cbinews.tv.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russia launched more than 200 long-range drones in overnight attacks targeting several regions across Ukraine.

Authorities in Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk region confirmed that Russian strikes on Tuesday morning killed at least one person and injured four others. Regional administration chief Oleksandr Ganzha said the attacks caused significant damage.

Local officials also reported that Russian drones struck energy infrastructure in the Mykolaiv region, leading to power outages, while residential buildings and a kindergarten were hit in the Kyiv region. Additional attacks were recorded in Kharkiv, Zhytomyr, Sumy and Chernihiv regions.

In a post on X, Zelenskyy stated that “Russia itself chose to end the partial silence that had lasted for several days,” accusing Moscow of failing to respect the temporary ceasefire.

Meanwhile, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed that Russia had resumed military operations, saying the “humanitarian ceasefire ended” and that Russia’s “special military operation is continuing.”

Russia’s Ministry of Defence also claimed its air defence systems intercepted 27 Ukrainian drones over the Belgorod, Voronezh and Rostov regions.

The renewed exchange of attacks follows the expiration of a 72-hour truce announced by US President Donald Trump on Friday. Trump had expressed hope that the pause in fighting could signal “the beginning of the end” of the war, now entering its fourth year.

The ceasefire coincided with Russia’s Victory Day celebrations held from May 9 to May 11, commemorating the Soviet Union’s victory over Nazi Germany during World War II.

Zelenskyy maintained that Russia had not genuinely observed the truce, stating there was little calm along front-line areas despite a temporary reduction in large-scale attacks.

On the other hand, Russia accused Ukraine of violating the ceasefire more than 1,000 times, alleging Ukrainian forces targeted civilian infrastructure and Russian military positions during the period.
