Russia says it is ready to deepen defence cooperation with Equatorial Guinea, as Moscow continues to strengthen its footprint across Africa through security partnerships and regional alliances.
Russia has once again reaffirmed its military support for Equatorial Guinea as both countries move to strengthen defence and security cooperation across Africa.
Cbinews.tv reports that the assurance came during a meeting in Moscow between Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Equatorial Guinea’s Foreign Minister, Simeon Oyono Esono Angue.
Speaking after the talks on Monday, Lavrov said Russia remains committed to supporting Equatorial Guinea’s defence capabilities, describing the relationship between both nations as long-standing and strategic.
“We are always open to listening and meeting your needs in the field of defence capability as much as possible,” Lavrov stated.
Angue also praised Russia’s expanding security presence in Africa, particularly in the Sahel region and the Central African Republic. According to him, Moscow’s involvement has contributed significantly to restoring peace and improving stability in areas battling insecurity.
He noted that Russia’s intervention in the Sahel has produced “great results” in strengthening regional security.
Russia has steadily increased its influence across Africa in recent years through military cooperation, diplomatic ties and economic partnerships, especially in countries seeking new allies amid ongoing security and political challenges.
