Monza tow game is on and Russell is winning it even without a tow
Mercedes driver George Russell topped final practice at Monza, a session all about hunting a slipstream, cbinews.tv.
He set his best lap with no tow and still finished 0.226 seconds clear of Ferrari Lewis Hamilton, with Red Bull Max Verstappen third.
Mercedes were practising Antonelli towing Russell, smart move as Antonelli leads the title by 59 points but will start last due to an engine parts penalty and will be used to boost Russell for pole.
Late drama saw Verstappen dive inside Hamilton wheel to wheel at the first chicane and force him into the run off area.
Antonelli was fourth 0.361 off, Verstappen 0.350 off after a tough Friday, while McLaren struggled with world champion Lando Norris fifth 0.406 off and team mate Oscar Piastri eighth behind Charles Leclerc and Arvid Lindblad.
