Mumbai, without regular captain Hardik Pandya due to illness, with Stand-in skipper Suryakumar Yadav top-scoring with 51....
In-form batter Sameer Rizvi struck an attacking 90 to guide Delhi Capitals to a second successive win in the Indian Premier League (IPL) with a six-wicket victory over Mumbai Indians on Saturday.
Chasing 163 for victory, Delhi rode on Rizvi’s 51-ball knock, which included seven fours and seven sixes, to reach the target with 11 balls to spare at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
The 22-year-old earned his third successive half-century in the T20 tournament, following an unbeaten 70 in the opener and a fifty at the end of last season.
Delhi, captained by Axar Patel, moved to the top of the 10-team standings, edging Punjab Kings, who also have two wins from two matches.
Delhi were reduced to 7-2 early in the chase, including opener KL Rahul dismissed for one, before Sri Lanka’s Pathum Nissanka scored 44 and shared a 66-run partnership with Rizvi.
Nissanka fell in the 10th over, but Rizvi continued the charge, adding 78 runs with David Miller, who finished unbeaten on 21 and hit the winning boundary.
Rizvi was dismissed in the 17th over by South Africa quick Corbin Bosch, falling short of a century to loud applause from the home crowd.
Mumbai, five-time champions, were without captain Hardik Pandya due to illness and were put in to bat after losing the toss.
Stand-in skipper Suryakumar Yadav top-scored with 51 to help Mumbai post 162-6.
Delhi’s Mukesh Kumar struck early, removing Ryan Rickelton for nine and Tilak Varma for a duck in the same over.
Rohit Sharma made 35, while Suryakumar and Naman Dhir (28) added crucial runs to lift Mumbai to a competitive total, which ultimately proved insufficient.
