Rivers United enters Federation Cup quarter-finals, set to face winner of Star FC vs. Reign FC...
Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side Rivers United have been granted a bye into the quarter-finals of the Nigerian Federation Cup.
CBI News reports that the Pride of Rivers will meet the winner of the first-round clash between Star FC and Reign FC, with the quarter-final set for Thursday, 16 April.
Opening-round fixtures begin on 10 April, including Tobinsnet FC vs. DeCardinal FC, Willbros FC vs. Prime7 FC, and De-Future Stars FC vs. Ereme Jackson FC on 13 April.
The semi-finals are scheduled for 20 and 21 April, while the men’s final will hold at 3 p.m. on 25 April at Sharks Stadium and Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt.
In related NPFL news, Plateau United technical adviser Gbenga Ogunbote expressed disappointment over the lack of home support despite a 4-1 win over Ikorodu City on Monday at Lafia City Stadium.
Ogunbote explained that the Peace Boys have been forced to stage home games in Lafia due to security concerns in Jos.
“We really missed the support of our twelfth man which is the supporters,” he said.
“Nevertheless we enjoyed the support of the Lafia fans, but would have preferred to play this game in Jos.”
