Rivers elders buy APC nomination form for Fubara ahead of 2027...
A group of elders and political leaders from Rivers State has purchased the Expression of Interest and Nomination forms for Governor Siminalayi Fubara ahead of the 2027 governorship election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
CBI News reports that the delegation was led by a member of the House of Representatives, Awaji-Inombek Abiante.
Speaking with journalists after purchasing the form, Abiante said the move was not initiated by the governor but driven by the people.
“He didn’t send us here. It is only after this that he may even become aware that we have acquired the forms. We are compelling him. He cannot escape from his people,” he said.
The lawmaker described the initiative as a grassroots effort financed by ordinary citizens across the state.
According to him, the action reflects the will of the people rather than financial influence.
“This is a people-funded mandate. It shows that democracy is not determined by the depth of one’s pocket, but by the will of the people,” he added.
The delegation said their decision was based on Fubara’s performance in office, particularly in infrastructure and economic development.
Projects highlighted include the Trans-Kalabari Road, Andoni Access, and initiatives around the Blue Economy.
Abiante also dismissed concerns about Fubara’s political standing, insisting that the governor enjoys widespread support across the state.
“This is the first time that the citizens of Rivers State have had someone who is committed to their service, a man who comprehends the struggles of the people,” he said.
