Driver flees after Rider dies in Lagos Crash...
A dispatch rider died in a road accident involving a diesel tanker along the Cele Bridge axis of the Apapa–Oshodi Expressway in Lagos, authorities said on Wednesday.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) said the fully loaded HOWO tanker rammed into the motorcycle, trapping the rider beneath the vehicle and killing him instantly.
LASTMA officials cordoned off the area to prevent further accidents and manage traffic on the busy route.
“The prompt action was necessary to forestall secondary collisions and maintain order along the corridor,” the agency said in a statement.
The tanker was impounded, but the driver fled the scene after the crash.
Police officers from the Ijesha Division later took over the scene, removing the body and securing the vehicles for investigation.
The remains of the victim were taken to a morgue in Yaba.
LASTMA General Manager Olalekan Bakare-Oki expressed sympathy to the victim’s family and called for a thorough investigation.
The incident has renewed concerns over road safety on major Lagos highways, particularly involving heavy-duty vehicles and commercial motorcyclists.
