Reactions have continued to pour in following the just-concluded FCT Area Council elections, with residents expressing mixed feelings over the exercise. While some commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies for the orderly conduct of the polls, others raised concerns over the low voter turnout, attributing it to the prevailing economic hardship faced by many citizens.
Isa Abdulmalik, speaking on the mode of result transmission, praised INEC’s efforts but stressed the need for further improvements ahead of the 2027 general elections to enhance transparency and credibility.
Also reacting, Osaretin Eguakun said that despite observed challenges, there are clear positives to take from the real-time transmission of results across the six area councils. describing it as a step forward in strengthening the electoral process.
For his part, Aliyu Danjuma attributed the low voter turnout to the prevailing economic hardship facing many citizens. He urged elected leaders to prioritise the welfare of the people who entrusted them with their mandate.
Danjuma added that governance should focus on public interest rather than personal gain.
As residents reflect on the outcome of the polls, many say the true test now lies in responsive governance and the delivery of democratic dividends. With expectations high, stakeholders hope lessons from the exercise will further strengthen the electoral process ahead of future elections in the Federal Capital Territory.
