Yep, it's happening again – England’s resident doctors are set to walk out for the 16th time as the pay dispute drags on.
So, here we go again. Resident doctors across England are gearing up for yet another strike, and this one’s a four-dayer from Monday 15 to Friday 19 June. That makes it strike number 16 in their long-running battle overpay, according to cbinews.tv.
The announcement landed right after the British Medical Association had a sit-down with the new health secretary, James Murray, on Wednesday.
You’ll remember the last walkout wasn’t that long ago – a six-day strike back in April.
Now, on paper, resident doctors have actually had pay rises worth 33% over the last four years, including a 3.5% bump this year. That puts starting salaries at just over £40,000, while the most senior docs are on £76,500 basic pay. And that’s before you add in extra cash for unsocial hours or overtime, which can add thousands more.
But the BMA isn’t having it. Their point? Once you factor in inflation, resident doctors are still getting about a fifth less than they were back in 2008. So, for them, the fight isn’t over yet.
