How does a non-existent government agency secure office space inside the Federal Secretariat and nearly walk away with N1.32 billion in the 2026 budget? That is the question House of Representatives investigators are now forcing answers to.

Here is what happened:

In a dramatic turn at the National Assembly on Monday, the House of Representatives Committee investigating the controversial Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council has ordered the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, to produce its self-acclaimed Director-General, Mr Adeyemi Adeniyi, within 48 hours.

The committee, sitting at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja, directed that Adeyemi must appear before lawmakers by 12 noon on Wednesday.

The order was issued to Assistant Commissioner of Police, Bashir Abdullahi, who represented the IGP at the resumed hearing.

Lawmakers are probing how the PFIPC, which has no legal backing, allegedly managed to secure office accommodation in Phase III of the Federal Secretariat, Abuja, and was allocated a staggering N1.32 billion in the 2026 Appropriation Act.

According to the police, the case began after a petition dated October 17, 2025, from the Office of the Chief of Staff to the President. The petition accused Adeyemi of fraudulently parading himself as the Director-General of both the Presidential Economic Advisory Council and the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council.

Speaking during the session, Committee Chairman, Yusuf Gagdi, said Adeyemi’s appearance is no longer optional.

“This committee clearly needs the suspected DG to appear before this committee. People’s names are involved. People’s integrity are involved. Institutional names are involved. Institutional integrity is involved,” Gagdi said.

The drama deepened when the committee compared signatures on documents allegedly from the Office of the Chief of Staff to the President with authentic samples. When asked if they matched, the police witness was blunt: “They are not the same.”

The committee says it has uncovered about 29 allegedly forged documents, including purported approvals from the State House, the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the Ministry of Finance and other agencies. Most of the agencies involved have already appeared before the committee and disowned the documents.

Giving an update, ACP Abdullahi told the committee that the police had investigated the matter late last year and have already filed an eight-count charge bordering on conspiracy and fraud against Adeyemi before the Federal High Court. The suspect has been arrested and arraigned, with the case still ongoing.

The police also confirmed that Adeyemi allegedly attempted to recruit about 300 staff, pushed for a $1.3 billion allocation under the 2026 budget, and planned to organise a World Investment Summit under the fake council.

The committee has now directed its clerk to formally communicate its resolution to the IGP.

“The committee hereby resolves that the Inspector-General of Police of the Federal Republic of Nigeria do kindly present Mr Adeyemi on Wednesday by 12 noon. That is the ruling of the committee,” Gagdi declared.
