After more than a decade of success, trophies, and unforgettable moments, Real Madrid captain Dani Carvajal is set to say goodbye to the Santiago Bernabéu at the end of the season.
Real Madrid captain Dani Carvajal will leave the club at the end of the season, bringing an end to a remarkable era at the Spanish giants, cbinews.tv reports.
The 34-year-old defender leaves as one of the most decorated players in the club’s history, having made 450 appearances and won 27 trophies, including six UEFA Champions League titles and four La Liga crowns.
In a statement released on Monday, Real Madrid described Carvajal as “one of the greatest legends of our club and world football.”
Carvajal came through Real Madrid’s famous La Fabrica academy before joining Bayer Leverkusen in 2012.
However, Madrid quickly brought him back just a year later a decision that turned out to be one of the club’s best investments.
Club president Florentino Perez praised the veteran defender, calling him “a legend and a symbol of Real Madrid and its academy.”
The Spanish international had hoped to feature for Spain at this summer’s World Cup, but recurring injury problems during a difficult season have reportedly ruled him out of coach Luis de la Fuente’s plans.
Carvajal is expected to play his final game for Real Madrid this weekend at the Santiago Bernabéu against Athletic Bilbao, closing the curtain on an unforgettable chapter in Madrid history.
