History made in Nigerian football! Rangers International have lifted the NPFL trophy for a record-equalling ninth time after edging Ikorodu City in a tense title-deciding clash.
Rangers International are champions of Nigeria once again!
As reported by cbinewstv, the Flying Antelopes defeated Ikorodu City 2-1 to seal their ninth Nigeria Premier Football League title, matching Enyimba’s all-time record.
Captain Chidiebere Nwobodo proved to be the hero, scoring in both halves to hand Rangers the crucial victory they needed to stay ahead of Rivers United in the final standings.
Ikorodu City threatened a comeback after substitute Moses Ali pulled one back in the second half following a goalkeeping error from Lucky Jimoh, but Rangers held firm to secure the title in dramatic fashion.
The Enugu side finished the season with 68 points from 38 matches, just one point above Rivers United, who also ended their campaign strongly with a 3-0 win over Katsina United.
It’s also another huge achievement for coach Fidelis Ilechukwu, who now celebrates his second league title with Rangers.
With the triumph, Rangers and Rivers United will both represent Nigeria in next season’s CAF Champions League.
