Nigerian billionaire Abdul Samad Rabiu praised the Super Eagles for their courage and commitment despite falling to qualify for the final of the AFCON 2025.
He said the team made the nation proud with its performance.
In a statement, Rabiu said the players fought with determination and showed unity and passion on the pitch, adding that their effort was worthy of celebration even though the result did not meet expectations.
He announced he would still fulfil his pledge of $500,000 to the team, describing it as recognition of their hard work, dedication and the joy they brought to Nigerians.
Rabiu urged the players to keep their heads high, saying the experience and lessons gained would inspire greater success in the future and reaffirm Nigeria’s continued support for the team.
The Chairman and Founder of BUA Group had promised the Nigerian Super Eagles USD $1 million if they win the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final, in addition to USD $100,000 for each goal scored
He had also pledged USD $500,000 to the players if they won the semi-final, with an additional USD $50,000 for every goal scored.
CBI News reports that the Super Eagles lost 2- 4 on penalties to the Atlas Lions of Morocco after the game ended in a 0-0 draw after extra time.
Morocco will play Senegal in Sunday's final after the Lions of Teranga defeated Egypt 1-0 in the other semi-final.
