QPR have just secured a big name for their defence and fans will love this one.

Queens Park Rangers have sealed the signing of Tariq Lamptey, and it is quite a statement.

The 25-year-old right-back has joined on a free transfer after leaving Serie A side Fiorentina, cbinews.tv reports.

It did not quite work out for him in Italy. He moved there from Brighton in September 2025 but only made two appearances after picking up a serious knee injury.

Many will remember Lamptey from his early days at Chelsea, where he made his Premier League debut against Arsenal, before going on to play over 120 games for Brighton.

Now he is almost ready to go again, and he sounds really upbeat about it.

He told the club website, "My recovery from injury has gone well and I am not too far away now. I am looking forward to joining with the boys. Throughout my football journey I have always been resilient."

On the international stage, he featured for Ghana at the 2022 World Cup and has 11 senior caps after switching allegiance from England, where he played twice for the under-21s.

QPR chief executive Christian Nourry said Lamptey had plenty of options but chose Loftus Road.

He said, "We have had good conversations about what he wants to achieve and how he feels that this is the right environment for him to flourish in. His decision to join QPR over a myriad of other Championship clubs and clubs abroad is a further signal of the growing potential of this football club."

The club has not disclosed the length of his contract. QPR will kick off the new Championship season away at Portsmouth on Saturday, 15 August, 3pm BST.
