So, in a pretty significant move, Vladimir Putin has reportedly ordered Russian forces to hold off on striking Kyiv for three days.
According to the Kremlin, the pause is to allow US President Donald Trump’s envoys to visit the Ukrainian capital. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told state news agency TASS: “The Russian president and commander in chief has given the order not to strike Kyiv for three days from midnight tonight.”
The timing is key. Trump’s envoys, Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff, landed in Moscow on Saturday afternoon; their plane touched down at 12:52 pm local time, per RIA Novosti, and they’re there to thrash out a plan to end more than four years of war in Ukraine.
After talks in Moscow, the pair are expected to head straight to Kyiv.
It’s a brief window, but a telling one.
