Injury setback for PSG as Hakimi, Chevalier face weeks out...
Paris Saint-Germain have been dealt a major injury setback after confirming that Achraf Hakimi will be sidelined for “the next few weeks” with a right thigh injury.
CBI News reports that the development rules the defender out of the UEFA Champions League semi-final second leg against Bayern Munich.
Hakimi played the full 90 minutes and provided an assist as PSG secured a dramatic 5-4 victory in the first leg at the Parc des Princes.
The encounter made history as the first European semi-final in which both teams scored at least four goals.
It also became only the second knockout match in the UEFA Champions League era to reach that mark, after Chelsea’s 4-4 draw with Liverpool in the 2008/2009 quarter-final.
Despite his decisive contribution, the Morocco international sustained the injury during the match.
“Having sustained an injury to his right thigh during the match against Bayern Munich, Achraf Hakimi will be out of action for the next few weeks,” the club said in a statement.
The timing of the injury is a major concern for PSG, who are also battling in the Ligue 1 title race.
Hakimi is now a doubt for the crucial league clash against Lens on May 13 as the season approaches its decisive stage.
Hakimi has been one of PSG’s most consistent performers this season, making 31 appearances across all competitions.
Operating from right-back, he has contributed three goals and eight assists the fourth-highest assist tally in the squad behind Ousmane Dembele, Vitinha and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
PSG also confirmed that goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier will miss several weeks after sustaining a thigh injury in training, compounding the club’s injury concerns ahead of a crucial period in their campaign.
