The demonstrators insist that justice must not be compromised by political interests.
Supporters of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, have staged a peaceful protest in Kaduna, calling for what they describe as a fair and independent trial amid ongoing legal proceedings.
CBI News reports that the protesters, drawn from different parts of Kaduna State, took to the streets carrying placards with inscriptions such as “Free El-Rufai” and “We Need Justice, Not Political Persecution.”
They chanted solidarity songs and expressed strong support for the former governor, describing his tenure as one marked by development and reforms.
The demonstrators warned that any politically motivated action against him would be resisted, stressing the need for due process and the rule of law to prevail.
They stressed that anti-corruption and security agencies should not be used as tools to intimidate opposition figures, a claim they say threatens Nigeria’s democratic values.
CBI News noted that the group further called on the international community to monitor the situation and ensure that justice is served fairly and transparently.
They are calling on the international community to pay attention. Nigeria’s democracy must be protected, and justice must be seen to be done without bias.
