Presidential Boeing 737 BBJ remains unsold nearly four months after being listed for sale by the Tinubu administration.
Nearly four months after the Federal Government put up the Presidential Boeing 737-700 Business Jet (BBJ) for sale, the aircraft remains unsold, according to new findings.
Email correspondence between The Punch and JetHQ, the U.S.-based marketing firm managing the listing, confirmed that the jet is “still available.”
“The aircraft remains available for sale,” JetHQ’s Market Research Assistant, Marinell Nuevo, stated in response to an inquiry.
CBI News reports that however, JetHQ’s Market Research Manager, Laurie Barringer, declined to provide further details, citing confidentiality.
“We do not provide this kind of information to anyone but the direct owner of the aircraft. This is considered proprietary information,” she said.
A follow-up inquiry seeking accountability on behalf of Nigerian taxpayers, who financed the jet’s purchase and upkeep, had not been answered at press time.
The aircraft is currently managed by AMAC Aerospace, a Swiss aviation company overseeing its maintenance and sale.
According to the listing, the jet underwent major refurbishments at AMAC’s Basel facility in July 2024, including a full upgrade of first-class seats, replacement of cabin carpets, and completion of C1–C2 inspections.
Described as having “one owner since new, always hangared,” the Boeing 737 BBJ seats 33 passengers and eight crew members, totaling 41 seats.
Aircraft valuation platform aircraftcostcalculator.com estimates the average price of a pre-owned Boeing 737 BBJ at $56 million, depending on condition and specifications.
The site notes: “Depending on numerous factors, the average price for a pre-owned Boeing BBJ is $56,000,00. The Boeing BBJ has total variable costs of $3.9 million and fixed costs of $1.3 million, with an annual budget of about $5.2 million roughly $11,561 per flight hour.”
CBI News also reports that the jet was originally acquired in 2005 during former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration at a cost of $43 million and has remained part of the Presidential Air Fleet since.
In July 2025, President Bola Tinubu’s administration listed the aircraft for sale as part of its cost-cutting and fleet rationalisation drive, following criticism of Nigeria’s expenditure on maintaining several presidential jets.
