The Federal Government has issued a strong warning to telecom operators including MTN, Airtel and Glo. The government insists that Nigerians deserve better network quality, faster internet connectivity and real value for the money they spend on telecom services.
CBI News reports that the Federal Government has intensified pressure on telecommunications companies operating in Nigeria to improve service delivery amid growing complaints over poor network quality and internet disruptions across the country.
Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani said telecom operators must now take responsibility for resolving persistent connectivity issues affecting millions of Nigerians.
According to the minister, the government has already implemented key reforms aimed at stabilising the telecommunications sector and creating an environment for improved digital infrastructure nationwide.
He specifically called on companies such as MTN Nigeria, Airtel Nigeria and Globacom to improve service quality and ensure subscribers receive reliable connectivity and value for money.
Tijani explained that the current administration inherited major structural problems caused by years of inadequate investment in telecom infrastructure, which has contributed to dropped calls, slow internet speeds and poor nationwide coverage.
To address these challenges, the Federal Government said it has introduced both short-term and long-term strategies to strengthen Nigeria’s digital economy and improve internet access for homes and businesses.
As part of the long-term plan, the minister disclosed that the government had secured funding support led by the World Bank under Project BRIDGE to expand fibre-optic infrastructure across the country.
He added that the initiative is expected to improve broadband penetration, enhance connectivity and support stable high-speed internet services nationwide.
