In a continuous effort to protect and safeguard public property, the police in Niger State say they have succeeded in arresting 7 suspects for illegal mining and vandalism at Gurara waterfalls,
Confirming the development in a statement, Superintendent Wasi'u Abiodun, the police spokesman, said the incident occurred on March 22nd at about 5 pm.
According to the police, acting on the report, the 7 suspects aged between 25 and 40 were arrested after police operatives attached to Gawu-Babangida Division conducted a raid operation within the facility.
CBI News reports that exhibits recovered from the suspects are two water pump engines, fourteen carpets, six shovels, three diggers, two pipes, and seven head pans.
Meanwhile, the police further added that earlier on 17th March at about 4pm, a similar raid was carried out in the same facility, and eight suspects were arrested with the recovery of thirteen shovels, six diggers, thirteen head pans, twenty-four carpets, etc.
The raid operations continue as the fight against illegal mining and vandalism will be sustained.
