Tension is brewing in Osun State after a viral campaign video allegedly showed a serving Senator telling supporters to "kill" opposition members.

There is serious tension in Osun State right now, and the Police are not taking it lightly.

The Osun State Police Command has said it is seriously concerned about a viral video that appears to show the Senator representing Osun East, Francis Fadahunsi, allegedly urging his supporters in Ilesa to attack members of the opposition Accord Party ahead of Saturday's governorship election.

The video sparked outrage on social media, with many Nigerians calling for swift action over what they described as a dangerous incitement to violence.

Speaking on Channels Television's The Morning Brief on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, said the Force would never condone such statements, regardless of who made them.

According to Ojelabi, the Senator has now been formally invited for questioning.

"He is a senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. We are not talking about immunity here. Even people not up to his status, we normally write invitation letters to them. If they honour it, fine. If they don't, then we go after them," he said.

"He has been invited, and when he comes, whatever he says will be made available to the public."

Ojelabi added that the Command had repeatedly warned political actors against inciting comments, and that the video left them with no choice.

"Seeing that video, it calls for serious concern, and that is what led to his invitation. Let him come and tell us what he was trying to say and what he meant by 'kill them' in that video," he stated.

"Let the speaker come and explain what he meant in the video because I might try to interpret it and might be different from what he meant. But we all heard what he said, and we have a very large community of Yorubas that understood what he said very well."

Cbinewstv reports that in a letter dated August 11, 2026, and signed by the Commissioner of Police, Elections in Osun State, Samuel Etaifo Erale, Senator Fadahunsi was directed to report to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Osogbo by 11:00 am on Wednesday, August 12, to "clarify the circumstances" surrounding the alleged remarks made during an APC campaign in Ilesa on Tuesday.

The letter noted that the statements, which have since circulated widely online, were considered to be "threatening, inciting and intimidating in nature."
