Think that viral video showing Fulani men allegedly arrested with arms in Ikorodu just happened? Lagos Police say it’s old footage from over three years ago and are urging residents not to be misled.
According to cbinewstv, Lagos Police have dismissed a viral video circulating online that allegedly shows Fulani men arrested with arms and ammunition in Ikorodu, clarifying that the footage is not recent.
According to the Lagos State Police Command, the video is actually from an incident that occurred more than three years ago and does not reflect the current security situation in Ikorodu or anywhere else in Lagos.
Police spokesperson SP Abimbola Adebisi said sharing the old clip as a fresh incident is misleading and could unnecessarily cause fear and panic among residents. The command urged members of the public to ignore the video and avoid spreading unverified information that could disrupt public peace.
The police also warned social media users and content creators against circulating false or alarmist reports, stressing that anyone found deliberately spreading misinformation or fake news could face investigation and prosecution under existing laws.
Meanwhile, Commissioner of Police CP Tijani Fatai has ordered the continued deployment of officers and operational assets to strategic locations, black spots, and entry and exit points across Lagos. The command said the move, in collaboration with other security agencies, is aimed at maintaining safety and security across the state.
Residents have been assured that adequate security measures remain in place and are encouraged to continue their daily activities without fear while reporting any suspicious movements or activities to the authorities.
