From sixth place in Birmingham to Commonwealth champion in Glasgow - this is how a Nigeria Police Corporal just made history!
What a moment for Nigeria!
The Nigeria Police Force is buzzing with pride after one of their own, Corporal Ezekiel Nathaniel, powered his way to GOLD in the men’s 400m hurdles at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
According to cbinewstv, Nathaniel put on an absolute masterclass on Friday night, leaving the field behind to cross the line in a blistering 48.47 seconds to claim the Commonwealth crown.
And what a glow-up it is! Remember Birmingham 2022 where he finished sixth? He’s come all the way back to top of the podium. That’s grit, discipline and pure determination - everything you’d expect from a Police officer.
In a statement, Force Public Relations Officer CSP Aniete Iniedu said the Force leadership is over the moon with the victory.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Riliwan Disu, has also hailed Corporal Nathaniel for flying both the national and the Force flag high on the world stage, describing his performance as a shining example of excellence for officers across all commands.
The Force says this isn’t just luck - it’s the result of deliberate investment. The win ties directly into the IGP’s Strategic Agenda on Police Sports Development, Personnel Welfare and Capacity Building, where sport is being championed as a core pillar for tactical fitness, morale and youth engagement.
On behalf of the entire management, officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force, the IGP has congratulated Nathaniel and wished him even more wins ahead.
