Plateau Assembly Receives 2025 Audited Accounts

Plateau State is getting top marks for openness as the full 2025 audited accounts land before the House and the Speaker says it proves government has nothing to hide.
The Plateau State House of Assembly has received the audited financial statements for the state government and all 17 local government councils for the 2025 fiscal year.
The documents were laid before the House during plenary on Monday by the Speaker, Naanlong Gapyil, who confirmed the development on Tuesday in a statement issued by his media aide, Philip Eplong.
According to the Speaker, the reports were submitted by the Office of the Auditor General for the State and the Auditor General for Local Governments in strict compliance with constitutional provisions on accountability in public finance.
He said the exercise was pursuant to Section 125(2) and Section 125(5) of the 1999 Constitution as amended, which require the Auditors General to submit audited accounts of the state and local governments to the legislature. He also cited relevant sections of the Plateau State Audit Law, 2021.
After the presentation, the House invoked its oversight powers under Sections 128 and 129 of the Constitution and referred both sets of accounts to the House Committee on Public Accounts and Petitions for detailed scrutiny.
The committee is to check all financial records for compliance with approved estimates and due process, identify any irregularities or waste of public funds, invite accounting officers for explanations where needed, and present a comprehensive report with recommendations.
The House also commended Governor Caleb Mutfwang for prompt submission, describing it as proof of his unwavering commitment to good governance, transparency and accountability.
The Speaker noted that prompt submission is a clear demonstration of the Governor integrity and utmost respect for the rule of law, adding that it shows an administration open to scrutiny and determined to manage public resources in the best interest of the people of Plateau State.
