Peter Obi blames poor leadership for Nigeria’s insecurity...
Former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has blamed poor leadership for the suffering Nigerians continue to endure, particularly in the face of persistent insecurity across the country.
Obi made the remarks while reacting to the recent deadly attack on Ngoshe community in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State, where terrorists reportedly attacked a military base and targeted civilians, leaving several people dead and many others missing.
The former governor of Anambra State said Nigerians are bearing the consequences of leadership failure and mismanagement, urging those in authority to take decisive steps to protect communities and dismantle insurgent networks.
According to him, the continuous attacks by terrorists on innocent citizens have persisted for far too long while political leaders remain focused on personal political ambitions.
CBI News reports that Obi expressed deep sorrow over the incident and called on the government to urgently address the worsening security situation in the country.
“It is with a heavy heart that I have learned of yet another horrific attack yesterday by terrorists on the community of Ngoshe in Borno State, which targeted not only a military base but also an internally displaced persons (IDP) camp, and sadly claimed the lives of innocent civilians and soldiers, many of whom are still missing,” he said.
He revealed that he watched videos from the aftermath of the attack and described the situation as disturbing.
“I watched several videos of this tragedy with deep horror. Once again we are confronted with the painful reality of the daily suffering that far too many Nigerians are forced to endure. This is unacceptable,” Obi stated.
The former presidential candidate questioned how long Nigerians would continue to suffer the effects of what he described as poor governance.
“How long will Nigerians continue to bear the consequences of poor leadership and mismanagement? How many more lives must be lost before decisive action is taken to secure our communities, protect the vulnerable, and dismantle the structures of these insurgents?” he asked.
Obi further criticised political leaders for allegedly prioritising electoral politics over governance, saying such a mindset has kept Nigerians trapped in insecurity, poverty and underdevelopment.
“While Nigerians are slaughtered daily by terrorists, what is more troubling is that amid these daily killings, our political leaders are preoccupied with selfish scheming on how to steal, grab and run away with the next election cycle, and keep us in insecurity, poverty and underdevelopment,” he said.
While sympathising with victims and affected families, Obi assured them of his solidarity during the difficult period.
“To the families who have lost loved ones, to the children now displaced, and to the communities living in fear, I stand with you in grief and in resolve. Your pain is Nigeria’s pain. Your safety and dignity must be the priority of any government that claims to serve the people,” he said.
Obi stressed that the country deserves leaders who place the value of human life above all else.
“Nigeria deserves a leadership that values human life above all else,” he added.
