Fayose hails Peter Obi as the only opposition voice with national traction and credibility.
Former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose has described the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, as the only true opposition voice left in Nigeria’s political landscape.
Speaking on Channels Television on Wednesday, Fayose said Obi remains the only figure maintaining national relevance and public trust despite not holding any government position.
“Tell me, who will defeat the APC? The only opposition that I know in Nigeria the only opposition that still has traction is Obi. No other one,” Fayose declared.
“The only voice that has traction, that is still talking, that is everywhere despite not being in government, is Obi. I give it to him.”
CBI News reports that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain dismissed other opposition figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, saying they no longer resonate with Nigerians.
“All others are just filling the gap. Atiku is filling the gap, and all the others too, because people don’t listen to them anymore,” he said.
Despite acknowledging Obi’s influence, Fayose maintained that President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) would still win the 2027 presidential election, arguing that no existing opposition structure can unseat him.
He also brushed aside the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as insignificant, stating,
He said: “Listen to me, ADC they are our old friends, senior colleagues, junior colleagues. Let me tell you that ADC is going nowhere.”
